Below, you will find snapshots and short descriptions of Adharshila's projects from 2005 through 2007. Please contact adharshila@gmail.com if you would like more information regarding an event featured on this page. Most of our programmes are conducted on a regular basis for new students. We try to update this page as often as possible, but please contact us if you would like a more comprehensive and up to date list of projects.
 

LEGAL AWARENESS

 

In partnership with the Delhi Legal Service Authority (DLSA), Adharshila launched its legal awareness programme in March 2006.

The project, titled “Strengthening Human Capital,” helps educate teenagers regarding fundamental legal rights, how to file a legal complaint, how to approach police, and how to handle an accident as a victim or bystander.

 The DLSA provides free legal services for women, and Adharshila centre also hosts free legal aid sessions.

VOLUNTEER PROGRAM WITH LADY SHRI RAM COLLEGE

 

 

Adharshila partners with the National Service Scheme at Lady Shri Ram College for a community service programme.

Volunteers commit 20 hours to the center, and they assist with tuition classes, outreach projects, and development work.

Lady Shri Ram College also hosts Adharshila’s legal awareness workshop and Annual Day programme where the centre’s students participate in a cultural festival.

NUTRITION AWARENESS CAMPS

 

 

Adharshila organizes nutrition awareness camps at slum schools in partnership with the Food & Nutrition Board, WCD dep't, and the Ministry of Human Resource Development.

Our programme provides instructions on how to prepare low cost, nutritionally rich food for children. We distribute detailed instructions and pamphlets to participants.

 We conduct this program on a regular basis for schools that express interest.

AIDS AWARENESS AND PREVENTION WORKSHOP
FOR ADOLESCENT GIRLS

 

 

Every six months, Adharshila organizes an AIDS awareness and prevention workshop for married and unmarried adolescent girls and women.

 In December 2005, Adharshila organized a World AIDS Day theme play at Nehru Stadium in collaboration with the Health Fitness Trust and the Joint Womens’ Programme.

 

WORLD HEALTH DAY

 

 


In April 2005, Adharshila conducted a free health camp in honor of World Health Day. Six hundred slum residents attended the camp for free check-ups and medication.

 

 

ADULT LITERACY PROGRAMME

 

 

Developed by Tata Consultancy Services, Adharshila’s adult literacy programme (ongoing) helps improve literacy in slum communities. Adharshila invites student volunteers from the Delhi University National Social Service programme to assist these courses.

 

 

ADHARSHILA FILM FESTIVAL

 

 

In 2005, Adharshila hosted a film festival that presented problems affecting slum communities. The films aimed to make slum residents better equipped to handle issues including disease and harassment. Never before has a Delhi NGO screened these documentaries for the benefit of slum communities.

 

 

SELF DEFENSE TRAINING CAMPS

 

 

Adharshila conducts regular self-defense training camps for underprivileged young girls in partnership with the Delhi police and the Crime Against Women Cell.

 

 

EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMS

 

 

In January 2005, Adharshila hosted a self-employment & direct marketing training programme for unemployed young women. Avon Beauty conducted the workshop.

 

 

HEALTH INSURANCE DRIVE FOR FAMILIES BELOW POVERTY LINE

 

 

Adharshila has launched a program to promote awareness for health insurance schemes for families living below the poverty line. Many people came forward to get their families insured.

 

 

 

 

 

DENTAL CAMP

 

 

Adharshila hosted a dental treatment and check-up drive in partnership with Rotary of South Suburban.


 

 

 

CHRISTMAS DAY CELEBRATION AND DISTRIBUTING
GIFTS TO CHILDREN

 

 


Every Christmas, Adharshila hosts a free gift-giving celebration for slum children. The centre also hosts an annual Diwali celebration (featured below)
