New
Delhi, November 5, 2005: Mr. Rajan
Bharti Mittal, Trustee, Bharti
Foundation - a trust instituted
by India’s leading telecom
conglomerate, Bharti Enterprises
today inaugurated the Bharti Computer
Centre, in the presence of Mr.
Subhash Chopra, MLA at
the Kalkaji Centre of Adharshila,
an NGO. Also present were
Ms. Neena Jolly and Ms. Geeta
Arora, co-founders of Adharshila.
Bharti Computer Centre is
an initiative focused on improving
the quality of education among
disadvantaged children through
the use of Computer-aided Learning.
The emphasis is on the first-generation
learners, who will be incentivized
by increasing their interest in
education and thus improve their
attendance. The Centre will also
provide computer exposure and
training to disadvantaged youth
in nearby communities. The Computer
courses provided in the Centre
are recognized by the Jan Shiksha
Sansthan, Ministry of HRD and
the students completing the course
will be provided with a JSS Certification.
Inaugurating
the Bharti Computer Centre,
Mr. Rajan Bharti Mittal, Joint
Managing Director, Bharti Tele-Ventures
Ltd., said, “Education
for underprivileged children is
the primary objective of Bharti
Foundation’s efforts, and
this is evident from its activities
over the past four years. Many
projects, specifically targeted
at this group have been supported
and implemented, touching the
lives of children in many states.
As a telecom service provider,
which believes in making a difference
to society, we are convinced that
initiatives like Bharti Computer
Centres will go a long way in
improving the quality of education
in the This particular Bharti
Computer Centre, set up jointly
with Adharshila, is intent on
imparting vocational training
to underprivileged children with
primary education background.
Children and youth from deprived
sections of society very rarely
have access to computers in their
schools, and therefore lack the
training and practice necessary
for proficiency in computers.
By receiving vocational computer
training at the Bharti Computer
Centre, children and youth from
14 years upwards will enroll more
easily in higher education and
get better jobs. In the long run,
the vocational training will give
them the self-sufficiency needed
to create their own future.
