Bharti Computer Centre |
|
In
2005, Adharshila founded its
computer centre to help slum
residents improve vocational skills.
Sponsored by the Bharti Foundation,
the centre has twenty computers for
its daily workshops. Students learn
essential concepts for Microsoft
Word, Excel, Powerpoint, DOS, and
the internet.
Classes also teach essential skills
of resume-building and typing.
Course graduates receive
certification directly from the
Ministry of Human Resource
Development. Adharshila graduates
approximately 40 students per six
month session.
In the
near future, Adharshila hopes to
expand its computer centre by
teaching courses in computer
programming. W |

Babita,
16
Babita
has been enrolled in
Adharshila's computer
course since May 2007.
She is a commerce stream
student in the 11th
class. Babita first
learned to use computers
in school, but she did
not feel that she was
learning enough.
She
joined Adharshila's
course to learn more, as
she would like to pursue
a computer-related
career. She is
interested in learning
web design and computer
programming. |
Gegan, 18
A commerce stream
student in class 12,
Gegan has been enrolled
in Adharshila's computer
course since 2005.
After graduation, Gegan
wishes to pursue a
career in hotel
management, and he feels
that Adharshila's
computer course will
help him reach this
objective.
In his spare time, Gegan
tutors other students in
the computer course. He
is excited to learn new
topics including
programming and web
design.

at the beginning of class. All
computers come equipped with
typing tutor software to help
students use the computer more
efficiently.

students collaborate to complete
their assignments on the
computer. In general, classes
have more students than
computers, so students must
collaborate. Although it would
be nice to have a 1:1
computer-student ratio, teamwork
helps the students problem-solve
more efficiently. |

Adharshila's computers are
also equipped with software for
younger students. We feel that
these programs are integral to
child development. We allow
students to play on any
available computer. |
