Beauty and Healthcare |
Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday,
Adharshila hosts a beauty and
healthcare course for adolescent and
adult women. The class, taught by a
professional beautician, certifies
women for employment in salons.
Every six months, approximately 40
graduates are qualified to begin
work. While some of our students
build careers in beauty and
healthcare, most choose to continue
their education.

Pooja, 17
When Pooja was thirteen,
she left school to look
after her father and
brothers, taking care of
household chores
including cooking and
cleaning.
Even though she has a
class six education, she
has always dreamed of a
better future, where she
can stand on her own two
feet to look after
herself and her family.
“All my friends are
getting married and
setting up their homes
right now,” said Pooja
in Hindi, “but I want to
wait. I want to get a
job and have a purpose.
I want to make something
out of my life.”
Pooja expresses that
she is very thankful to
Adharshila for giving a
new direction to her
life.
She said, “Without the
center, I would be
sitting at home doing
nothing. Now, I will be
able to find work.” |
Sanjana, 15
Sanjana, a student of
class nine has been
enrolled in Adharshila’s
beauty course for the
past six months.
Although she feels that
the course will help her
in the long run, she
admits that beauty and
healthcare is her back
up plan as her first
priority is education.
“I really enjoy
studying science, and I
would like to go to
college. I feel that a
beauty and healthcare
certificate will help me
in the long run,
especially if my plans
don’t work out,” she
said.
